Third-placed Poland's Magda Reinet beat Russia's Oksana Selekhmeteva 6-2, 6-0 to advance at the Chennai Open WTA 250 tennis tournament on Thursday into the quarterfinals. Linette played in the quarterfinals with Britain's Katie Swann, who defeated giant killer Anastasia Gasanova 7-6 (5), 6-2. Swan overcame a challenge from her Russian opponent and, despite what appeared to be an injury, gave her all in the first set. Linet will face seventh-seeded Canadian Rebecca Marino in the quarterfinals on Friday. Argentina's Nadia Podoroska defeated fourth-seeded Tajana Maria by three points. Podoroska won 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (6) in 2 hours and 46 minutes. Podoroska was in good form after being beaten in the first set against Wimbledon semi-finalist Maria earlier this year.

Alison Riske-Amritraj

Maria, who beat India's No. 1 Ankita Raina in her opening match, continues her good form and looks set for a win and a place in the quarter-finals. However, the Argentine seems to have other ideas. The deciding set was a back-and-forth affair of fluctuating power, with Podoroska holding on to a 6-5 lead and putting the experienced German under pressure. Maria, however, insisted on pushing it into the tiebreaker. She led 5-1 before the Argentine fought back again to beat her opponent 8-6. In the singles draw, top seed Alison Riske-Amritraj had already beaten Gasanova in the first round, while Nos. 5 and 6 were also eliminated. Indian duo Rutuja Bhosale and Karman Kaur Thandi were beaten 0-6, 3-6 by top-seeded Canadian-Brazilian duo Gabriela Dabrowski and Luisa Stefanie to end home interest in the game.
