Andre Drummond on assuming different role as a Laker
For the first time in his career Andre Drummond is playing for a team that has the only goal – winning a championship. Naturally, his role is different from those he had before.
Being a member of the Los Angeles Lakers he is expected to focus on defense more. “I think when I got here I knew that it was going to be quite a change for myself personally and as for the team because they’re getting a guy that is coming from a team that did everything,” Drummond said ahead of the Clippers game.
“Defensively, offensively I did a lot of stuff so it’s really mainly figuring out how to adjust to each other. So when I got here I knew that my role was going to change. I was well aware of that. So it wasn’t a shock for me to see some of the nights that I had while I was here.
“But just to impact this team on defense and score when I can offensively was my biggest thing and what I know I’m capable of doing. So it’s just getting that chemistry and that playing with these guys. We don’t have a lot of time to jell. So we got to what we can on the fly.”
So far Drummond played 14 games for the reigning NBA champions averaging 12.2 points, 9.5 rebounds in 24.9 minutes per game. Prior to joining the Lakers he averaged 17.5 points and 13.5 rebounds and 28.9 minutes per game for the Cavaliers this season.
